PhotoFocus is a free yearly summer photographic program for Monterey County teenagers through the Center for Photographic Art. The 2009
PhotoFocus program will concentrate on documenting Elkhorn Slough, a natural wetland and estuary located in Moss Landing, CA. During the
5-week period from June 19th to July 17th, students will create a photographic book documenting the natural beauty of the wetland as well
as the people who work to preserve and protect it. Students will work with local professional photographers as well as scientists conducting
studies within the wetland. Learning objectives include: camera operation, composition, landscape photography, portraiture, digital editing, book making and real-world exposure to documentary and editorial photography. Student will be encouraged to work together to create a sense of community. At the end of the program, there will be a book release party and each student will get a copy of the finished book.
PhotoFocus 09 is limited to 20 high school students from Monterey County. All photographic sessions are on Friday mornings (9am-12pm).
Students must provide their own transportation and have a digital camera. A beginning background in photography (high school photo courses) is recommended. Enrollment begins on May 25th. Please contact the Program Director, Greg Mettler for additional information and to enroll. There will be an introductory meeting for enrolled students and their parents on June 15th, 6-8pm at the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel, CA.
