Notes on photo sizing and color space...
Apple's iPhoto

Adobe Photoshop
Open the image
1) In the "Edit" menu select "Convert to Profile"
2) You will see a dialog box, in the "Destination Space" select sRGB [sRGB IEC61966...]
3) Click OK
To size the image
4) From the "Image" menu, select "Image Size"
5) ensure that "Constrain Proportions" and "Resample Image" are checked
6) change the units for the width and height drop down to inches
7) set the resolution to 300
8) set the longest dimension to 6.0 inches
9) click OK
To save the image (DO NOT JUST SAVE, use Save As... or Save for the Web)
4) From the "File" menu select "Save for the Web..."
5) Set the output file type to "JPEG"
6) Click the little arrow button just to the right of the "Settings" drop down, it should expand into a menu
7) Select "Optimize to File Size..." from that menu
8) ensure that "Start with" is set to "Current Settings" and "Use" is set to "Current slice"
9) enter 1024 in the "Desired File Size" box
10) Click OK to close the "Optimize File Size" dialog box.
11) Click OK to save the file
12) Select a file name and destination folder from the Save dialog
13) Click Save in the save dialog
14) Close your original file without saving.
