About the Artist

“Photographing underwater for over 20 years, I’ve discovered that my images are about BEING underwater; how it feels as a human being to experience this other world, how the landscape and animals look in relation to our above-water seeing, how other people look and behave underwater. The images are a self-reflection of the experience, both personal and collective, and a tribute to the ocean’s life.

Printing these images is a challenge. The water above is much brighter than below. Plankton darkens things even further and presents small specs on the image. The successful image is a tension of shadow and light that proves mysterious and beautiful at the same time.”

Robin is a fifth generation California central coast native who studied with West Coast photography teachers, hand printing in the darkroom. She widely exhibits her work, and has received top awards in international underwater photographic competitions. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Monterey Museum of Art.
